In this article, I am going to discuss how to install Linux OS in our windows 10 using a Virtual box. So why we use Virtual box?
We use Virtual box to install an additional operating system to our laptop/computer, for example, you can install Windows 7/8 even you can install Linux, Android, Mac OS, so the virtual box is a software that allows you to install the different operating system in your computer. So let’s see how I can download and install the virtual box on windows 10. So just click here to download the virtual box.
Download Virtual Box
So here you’ll get virtual box sometimes virtual box is called virtual machine. So here you’ll get download virtual box 6.1 just click this.
So you’ll get a different option, so if you want to install virtual box on your windows then you’ll have to download Windows host or if you want to install virtual box on your Mac OS then you have to download OS X host or if you want to download on your Linux then you have to download Linux Distributions.
Install Virtual Box
So after download the virtual box you have to simple install virtual box (don’t change anything during installation process).
After installation you’ll get this interface. So by using this virtual box you can install any kind of operating system in your computer.
So to install Linux on your virtual box we have to download the ISO file.
Download Ubuntu
So click here to download ubuntu for desktops.
You have to download Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS, so this is the most stable one, below here they recommended system requirements then Click the Download button to download Ubuntu.
Open Virtual Box
So after downloading the ISO file, open Virtual box.
After open virtual box click new option that is top left of the window then create virtual machine option will come and fill the name like if you want to install ubuntu then write in name section then in type section automatically Linux appear if don’t appear then manually select the Linux. then after you have to choose version like if you have a 32 or 64 bit processor choose the version according to your processor.
After clicked Next you have to select your memory size like 1GB or 2GB. Here selected 1GB. then click Next.
After Next you’ll get three option to choose but is has default on 2nd option “create a virtual hard disk now”. Then click on Create. Then you’ll get again another three option and it default selected “VDI(virtual box disk image). then click Next.
Then after you’ll get two options but it default selected to Dynamically Allocated not need to change anything procced to Next.
Then file location and size appear and if you want to increase hard disk file then you can choose like 10, 20GB SO now click on Create.
So we had created our system requirements and jut select the ubuntu and go to the setting.
Select ISO file
After open setting go to the Storage option then click to empty tab below the controller IDE, then right here you have to select optical drive and choose virtual optical disk file like your ubuntu ISO file which you downloaded earlier. After selecting ISO file then click to OK
So now we have also selected our ISO file, now you have to start your virtual box by clicking Start button.
Install Ubuntu/Linux
So our Virtual box is running. So here we get two option Try Ubuntu and Install Ubuntu. So we have to Install Ubuntu in our virtual box, after clicking on Install button you’ll get two options 1. Download updates while installing ubuntu, 2. Install third party software for graphics and Wi-Fi hardware, Flash, Mp3 and other media so you don’t have to select anyone. just click on Continue.
Then it’ll give three option and you have to select the first option is Erase Disk and Install Ubuntu.
Warning: this will delete all your programs, photos, music, and other files. So before installing make sure to backup your files.
but don’t get worried about your files it doesn’t affect your files. If you lost all your files then I am not responsible for your loss.
Then click on Install Now after that you get a pop up and click Continue. So now here you select your location then click on Continue so now here we have to select your keyboard layout simply select English US and click Next. So it will ask you who are you? so fill your all details that is asked and login automatically then Continue.
So now it will start to install ubuntu in your virtual box then you will enjoy your Ubuntu OS.
